What is a Facial?

A Facial is a skin treatment performed by a licensed esthetician. Facials can be for relaxation purposes, targeting specific skin conditions, or anything in between.

What to expect

Prior to your facial, your esthetician will sit down with you and discuss your concerns, expectations, and goals for your skin. They will have you fill out a lifestyle form with questions about your at-home routine and relevant medical history that could affect your treatment. They will use this information to tailor the facial to your specific needs and goals, design a long-term treatment plan, and recommend the right products for you to use at home, to help you reach your skincare goals.

Exactly what your skin needs

Every facial begins with a double cleanse. The first cleanse is to remove any makeup, dirt, and oil that has built up on your skin. The second cleanse will prep your skin for the rest of the treatment.

The next steps of the facial will be determined by the type of facial you’re getting and your skincare needs. These may include any of the following:

  • Exfoliation

  • Massage

  • Extractions

  • LED

  • Masks

This would also be the time for any advanced treatments such as:

  • Dermaplaning

  • Microdermabrasion

  • Hydrodermabrasion

  • Chemical peels

Again, this will be determined by the type of treatment you’re getting and will be tailored specifically to your skincare needs at the time.

The final step of the facial will consist of serums, eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF. This is also where you might have oxygen infusion, ice globes, quartz mushrooms, or cold roller used to soothe the skin and help serums penetrate deeper.

Continued Support

After your facial, your esthetician will go over recommendations for your skin going forward, including treatments, products for home use, and things to avoid to keep your skin healthy and maintain your results. Depending on your skincare goals, most estheticians will recommend a series of at least 4 to 6 treatments, as well as products that will help you to reach and maintain your goals.

Work with me

At Lively Esthetics, I have several facials available, along with a wide range of enhancements, to cater to all skin types and concerns. You can view my entire menu here. For first-time clients, I do recommend starting with a Custom Facial so that I can get to know your skin a bit before recommending any advanced treatments.
