What Exactly is CBD?

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of many compounds found in hemp and cannabis plants.

Are hemp and cannabis the same?

Yes. …and no. It’s complicated. Hemp is a variety of cannabis. It grows about twice as tall as cannabis and takes a month longer to reach maturity. Hemp's tall stalks are tough and fibrous, so they can be used to make anything from textiles to paper! Cannabis is illegal to grow in most countries unless permitted for medicinal uses, while hemp is grown all over the world!

So, What Is CBD?

CBD is one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found in hemp and cannabis plants. CBD works with our body’s endocannabinoid system (yes, we have an entire system that works solely with cannabinoids!) to reduce inflammation, prevent oxidative stress, and balance oil production. CBD can be taken internally through the use of supplements and tinctures, as well as applied topically to treat certain skin conditions

What Does CBD Do For the Skin?

  • Treats skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, and acne.

  • Slows the signs of aging

  • Balances oil production

  • Improves hydration levels

Who Should Use CBD?

Everyone! CBD is an amazing ingredient that can be included in any skincare routine! It offers benefits to all skin types and most skin conditions.

Things to Consider

  • Not all products containing CBD will be appropriate for all skin types. It’s important to still seek out products that suit YOUR unique skin type and concerns.

  • Not all CBD is created equal.

    • CBD is trendy right now and companies are jumping on the bandwagon to cash in. When shopping for CBD, do your best to seek out products from companies with integrity, use ethical practices in the growing, harvesting, and extraction of their product. Yes, there is a difference between high-quality CBD and the kind that you get in those pretty bottles that come from the company with the amazing eyeshadows.

  • CBD hair care is pointless. Yes, I said it! Sure, scalp serums and beard oils are useful, but anything that goes ont the shaft of the hair like a hair pomade and even hair masks are absolutely pointless. Hair is not living tissue and is not connected to the endocannabinoid system. It’s 100% just a money grab, don’t give in!

*CBD is not psychoactive (it will not get you high), and is not the same as THC.
